TV Mounting — What I Do
TV mounting in Winnipeg comes down to three things done right: finding solid anchor points in the wall, choosing the right bracket for your screen size and room layout, and keeping cables from hanging down the wall afterward.
I start by locating studs with a stud finder and confirming the wall material — drywall over wood studs, concrete block, and ceramic tile over cement board each need different hardware and anchors. Then I mount the bracket at the right height, hang the TV, and check level before tightening everything down.
For cable management I run cables inside surface raceways — paintable plastic channels that sit flat on the wall and paint over cleanly. This handles the job without opening the wall for any electrical work. Running new power circuits or relocating outlets is licensed electrical work under Manitoba's Electricians' Licence Act and is not part of what I do. The raceway approach is clean, does not require a permit, and gets it done the same visit.
A single-TV mount in most rooms takes two to three hours from arrival to cleanup, including cable management. Concrete or masonry walls take a bit longer.

How to Get a Quote
Take a photo of the wall where the TV will go and email it to me along with the screen size (diagonal) and whether you have a mount already or need one sourced. I will get back to you with a quote.
What affects the quote: wall type (drywall, concrete, brick, tile), mount style (flat, tilting, full-motion), cable management length, and whether any furniture needs to move.

Picking the Right Height and Location
Before drilling I talk through placement with you. A few things to consider: Is there a window behind the viewing area that creates glare at certain times of day? Does the stud layout let us centre the TV where you want it, or is there a stud gap that requires shifting left or right? Will the TV be viewed from a couch at a set distance, or from multiple angles?
Getting the height right matters. Too high means tilting your neck; too low on a fireplace surround can mean the screen is in the smoke zone. I can confirm the planned height visually with a tape measure before any holes are made.
Also useful to know about beforehand: furniture assembly if the media unit still needs building, and shelving and blinds installation for any shelving around the set.
About Electrical Work: What I Do and Do Not Do
I want to be clear on this because it comes up often. I do not run new electrical circuits, install outlets in the wall behind the TV, or do any wiring behind drywall. Under Manitoba's Electricians' Licence Act, that work requires a licensed electrician. Attempting it without a licence is not legal and not safe.
What I do instead is route cables through a surface raceway — a paintable plastic channel that runs along the baseboard or up the wall. It looks clean once painted and handles the job without any electrical permit. If you want an in-wall power outlet added, I can refer you to a licensed electrician who does that work; then I come back to mount the TV once the outlet is in.

I don't do **electrical work** — not even light fixtures, outlets, or ceiling fans. I don't do **plumbing** — not even faucets, toilets, or dishwasher hookups. No **gas work**, no **HVAC**, and no **asbestos removal**. In Manitoba, those trades require a licence and there's no exemption for a handyman working on someone else's property. I'm happy to point you to the right licensed trade for any of those jobs. What a handyman can and cannot do in Manitoba →
