Services

Four painting services in this silo, and here is when each makes sense:

Interior Painting — Walls, ceilings, trim. One room or several. I patch minor imperfections before painting, use quality primer where it matters, and tape clean edges. What to send: photos of the room(s) with ceiling heights visible, and a note on whether trim painting is included. A single bedroom typically takes one day; open-concept living rooms take longer.

Cabinet Painting — Kitchen or bathroom cabinets painted in a durable finish. Doors removed, sanded, primed, and painted. A genuine alternative to replacement — the cabinet box stays, only the finish changes. What to send: a photo of the full cabinet run plus a close-up of the door condition. Expect the job to take two to three days for proper curing between coats.

Deck and Fence Staining — Clean the surface, let it dry fully, apply a penetrating or solid stain. The right prep is what makes stain last. What to send: photos of the full deck or fence, including close-ups of any damaged or weathered sections. Staining requires dry weather above 10°C — Winnipeg's season for this runs roughly late May to mid-October.

Exterior Painting — Single-storey homes and garage doors. I do not do two-storey work — ladder safety and working at heights above 3 metres (10 ft) requires equipment beyond what I carry for exterior painting jobs. What to send: photos of each wall elevation plus the siding type. Single-storey exteriors are typically a two-to-three day job depending on prep.

What is out of scope: Two-storey exterior work, spray-applied coatings, roof painting, new drywall installation before painting (I can tape and finish drywall — see the Drywall hub for that).

How Quoting Works

For painting, the best quotes come from seeing the job. Send me photos — the room, the surface condition, the ceiling height, the trim you want done.

  1. Send photos of the space with the main surfaces visible.
  2. I reply with a price and an honest estimate of how many days the job will take.
  3. I send you available start dates and you pick one.

What affects the quote: room size and ceiling height, surface condition and prep required, trim versus walls only, whether you supply paint or I source it, and weather (for exterior).

What to Expect

I bring my own drop sheets, tape, and materials (unless you want to supply your own paint). Furniture moves to the center of the room before I start. I do not rush the prep — cutting in carefully before rolling saves time fixing drips later.

For cabinet painting, expect the job to take at least two days (sometimes three) because the finish needs to cure between coats.

Two-storey exterior painting is not something I take on. It requires scaffolding or a boom lift, and that is a different scale of job. For single-storey exteriors I can do the full job safely.

I don't do **electrical work** — not even light fixtures, outlets, or ceiling fans. I don't do **plumbing** — not even faucets, toilets, or dishwasher hookups. No **gas work**, no **HVAC**, and no **asbestos removal**. In Manitoba, those trades require a licence and there's no exemption for a handyman working on someone else's property. I'm happy to point you to the right licensed trade for any of those jobs. What a handyman can and cannot do in Manitoba →

Frequently Asked Questions

What time of year is best to paint a house?
For exterior painting, dry weather between 10°C and 30°C is ideal — late spring through early fall in Winnipeg. Interior painting can be done year-round. Humidity matters more than temperature indoors; good ventilation helps paint cure properly.
Is it cheaper to paint cabinets or replace them?
Painting is almost always cheaper than replacing. New cabinet doors and hardware can cost several times what a paint job costs. If the cabinet boxes are solid and the doors are in reasonable shape, painting is worth serious consideration.
Is it worth it to repaint kitchen cabinets?
Yes, if the cabinet structure is sound. A properly prepped and painted kitchen cabinet should hold up for many years with reasonable care. The key is surface prep — cleaning, sanding, and priming before any finish coat.
How much do painters charge in Winnipeg?
Painting costs depend on the scope: room size, ceiling height, condition of the surfaces, and how much prep work is needed. Trim and ceiling painting add time compared to walls only. Cabinet painting is priced differently from room painting — the process involves sanding, priming, and multiple coats on individual door panels, not rolling a room. I quote each job individually based on photos. Send me a photo and I will give you a number.
