Services

Six exterior services in this silo — here is what each involves and when to book:

Eavestrough Cleaning — Clear out leaves, seeds, and debris so water drains properly. I usually book the first clean in late spring after elm and cottonwood seed pods drop; the second in late October before the freeze. What to send: let me know the number of storeys and approximate linear feet. When you need it: at least twice a year — more often if you have elm, ash, cottonwood, or Manitoba maple trees nearby.

Eavestrough Repair — Re-sloping sagging sections, sealing leaking end caps or joints, reattaching hangers that have pulled away from the fascia. I repair existing eavestrough runs; I do not install new seamless eavestrough from scratch. When you need it: when you see water pouring over the edge during rain, or staining on the fascia board below the eavestrough lip.

Pressure Washing — Driveways, decks, fences, siding, and patio stones. Removes years of grime, algae, and freeze-thaw staining. Good prep before painting or staining. When you need it: spring, once temperatures are reliably above 5°C, to clear the winter's road salt and organic buildup.

Window Cleaning — Ground-floor and accessible second-floor windows, inside and out. I bring a squeegee, professional glass cleaner, and drop cloths. When you need it: spring (post-winter grime and hard-water spots) and fall (pre-heating-season dust and haze buildup inside).

Fence and Deck Repair — Replace broken boards, re-nail loose posts, fix sagging gates, replace individual deck boards. I also handle minor repairs to decks. Note: if your deck project exceeds 3.4 sq m and is more than 600 mm off the ground, Winnipeg requires permits — see the Deck and Fence Permit Rules guide.

Christmas Light Installation — Hanging outdoor lights before the snow arrives. You supply the lights; I hang them safely. I keep 3-metre clearance from power lines as required by Manitoba WSH rules. When to book: October slots fill first — book before the cold arrives.

What is out of scope: Roof washing, two-storey pressure washing from a ladder, new eavestrough installation from scratch, or any work that requires fall protection equipment I do not carry for residential jobs.

How Quoting Works

For most exterior jobs a photo and address work well. I can assess the size of the job from that.

  1. Send photos of the exterior area — wide shot plus any close-up problem areas.
  2. I reply with a price.
  3. I send you weather-friendly available dates and you pick one.

What affects the quote: job type, surface area, height and ladder accessibility, surface condition, and season (some jobs are weather-dependent).

Exterior work is weather-dependent. Pressure washing and painting/staining need temperatures above 5–10°C. Eavestrough cleaning can happen in fall before the freeze as long as ladders are safe.

What to Expect

Exterior work is weather-dependent. Pressure washing needs temperatures above 5°C. Painting and staining need dry weather above 10°C. Eavestrough cleaning can happen in fall before the freeze as long as ladders are safe.

I keep fall eavestrough cleaning and Christmas light installation slots limited — book ahead. Winnipeg winters come fast and the window for safe exterior work is shorter than it seems.

I don't do **electrical work** — not even light fixtures, outlets, or ceiling fans. I don't do **plumbing** — not even faucets, toilets, or dishwasher hookups. No **gas work**, no **HVAC**, and no **asbestos removal**. In Manitoba, those trades require a licence and there's no exemption for a handyman working on someone else's property. I'm happy to point you to the right licensed trade for any of those jobs. What a handyman can and cannot do in Manitoba →

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should eavestroughs be cleaned?
Twice a year is the standard recommendation for Winnipeg homes — once in late spring after seed pods drop, once in late October or early November before the freeze. Homes near elm, ash, cottonwood, or Manitoba maple trees may need cleaning more often because those species drop heavy debris throughout the season.
What is the most requested handyman service?
Eavestrough cleaning is one of the most common exterior calls I get, especially in fall. It is a job most people want done but do not want to do themselves — ladders, heights, and a mess of wet debris. I handle it so you do not have to.
