What I Do

I cover seven categories of home maintenance and repair work across Winnipeg. Here is what I can help you with and when you need each one:

Handyman Services — TV mounting, furniture assembly, shelving and blinds installation, caulking and weatherstripping, and grab bars for home safety. Good for the jobs that keep landing on the to-do list and never get ticked off. If you have a short list of small repairs, I can often knock several out in a single visit.

Drywall — Patches, repairs, popcorn ceiling removal, and taping and finishing. Call me when you have a hole in the wall, damaged corners, or a stipple ceiling you want gone. I can make a small repair disappear under paint or finish a freshly-hung room for painting.

Painting — Interior rooms, cabinet painting, deck and fence staining, and single-storey exterior painting. I work carefully, cut clean edges, and clean up when I am done. Bring your own paint or tell me what you want and I will advise.

Carpentry — Trim and baseboard installation, door installation and repair, window and screen repair. Good finish carpentry makes a house feel finished. I bring a mitre saw, nail gun, and caulk and match the existing trim profile.

Flooring — Laminate and vinyl plank installation, backsplash tile work, and regrouting. A fresh floor or a clean set of grout lines changes how a room feels. I handle the subfloor prep and transitions properly.

Exterior Home Services — Eavestrough cleaning and repair, pressure washing, window cleaning, fence and deck repair, and Christmas light installation. Most of these are seasonal — book ahead in spring and fall.

Junk Removal — Furniture, appliances, mattresses, renovation debris, garage and basement cleanouts. I haul with my own truck and trailer. What I cannot take: hazardous materials, appliances containing refrigerant (unless the refrigerant has been recovered first per MB regulations), and hot tubs or pianos.

How Quoting Works

Getting a quote is simple and there is no charge for it.

  1. Send me photos or describe the job. Email me a few photos of what needs doing. A short description works too. The more detail you can give me — size of the area, condition of the surface, what access is like — the more accurate the quote.
  2. I reply with a quote. I will text or call you back with a price. No obligations, no surprises. If the job turns out to be more complex than the photos show, I will flag that before starting work.
  3. You approve, and we lock in a day. Once you are happy with the quote, we agree on a day and time that works for your schedule. I confirm the day before.

What to send for the best quote:

  • A wide shot showing the full scope (the whole room, the whole wall, the full length of fence)
  • A close-up of the problem area (the crack, the hole, the stain, the damage)
  • The rough dimensions if you know them (e.g. "the room is about 12 × 14 ft")
  • Any materials you have already bought (e.g. "I have the new door, just need installation")

I reply by phone or text.

What Is In Season Right Now

It is late September — prime time for a few things before winter arrives.

Eavestrough cleaning should happen in late October to early November once the trees are bare, before the freeze sets in. Book now and get on the schedule before the rush.

Caulking and weatherstripping makes a real difference in Winnipeg winters. A drafty door or a cracked bathroom caulk joint is a small fix that pays off for months.

Christmas light installation — if you want lights up before the snow hits, early November is the right time to book. Spots fill fast.

What I Do Not Do

A few things are off the table — not because I do not want to help, but because Manitoba law requires them to be done by licensed tradespeople.

I do not do electrical work — not even swapping a light fixture or an outlet. I do not do plumbing — not even a leaky faucet or a toilet. No gas work, no HVAC, and no asbestos removal.

If a job turns out to need licensed work, I will tell you straight and point you in the right direction. Read more in my guide: What a Handyman Can and Cannot Do in Manitoba.

For everything else, I am likely your guy.

Not sure if your job is in scope? Describe it anyway — I will tell you honestly whether I can help, and if it needs a licensed trade, I will say so straight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to find a good handyman?
Ask for a clear scope before any work starts. A reliable handyman will tell you exactly what the job involves, give you a quote before starting, and let you know if anything changes. I always quote from photos first so there are no surprises on the day.
What is the most requested handyman service?
Drywall repair and painting are the most common calls I get. Beyond that: TV mounting, furniture assembly, eavestrough cleaning, and caulking/weatherstripping come up regularly. Basically — the jobs that sit on the list until someone just gets them done.
Does a handyman need a licence in Manitoba?
For most handyman tasks — drywall, painting, carpentry, flooring, junk removal — no trade licence is required. However, electrical, plumbing, gas, and HVAC work in Manitoba requires a licensed tradesperson. I only take on jobs I am legally permitted to do.
What is the minimum charge for a handyman?
I don't bill by the hour. Every job, small or large, gets one project price that I quote before I start, and that price includes my travel. For very small jobs such as a single TV mount or a couple of shelf brackets, it often makes sense to bundle a few tasks into one visit. Send me the job and I will quote it — if the cost does not make sense relative to the job, I will tell you.
