Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best way to find a good handyman?
Look for someone who gives you a clear quote before starting, is honest about what they can and cannot do, and communicates directly with you throughout the job. I quote from photos sent by email — you know the price before I show up.
What is the most requested handyman service?
Drywall repair and painting are at the top of the list. Eavestrough cleaning, TV mounting, furniture assembly, and caulking also come up regularly. Basically: the jobs you know need doing but keep putting off.
What is the most common job for a handyman?
Patching drywall and painting are the bread and butter. Beyond that: hanging doors that stick, replacing weatherstripping, fixing screens, assembling flat-pack furniture, and cleaning eavestroughs. Jobs that are straightforward but take a few hours and require the right tools.
Does a handyman need a licence in Manitoba?
For most handyman tasks — drywall, painting, carpentry, flooring, junk removal — no trade licence is required. However, electrical, plumbing, gas, and HVAC work requires a licensed tradesperson under Manitoba law. I only take jobs I am legally permitted to do, and I will tell you if your job needs a licensed trade.
What questions should I ask a handyman?
Ask whether the job is within their legal scope of work, whether they quote upfront or by the hour, who actually does the work (crew or solo), and what happens if something unexpected comes up mid-job. I work alone, quote upfront from photos, and tell you straight if something changes.
